Snow Betty film night
Join Betty Zine as we swap surf for snow with a screening of the feature film Weak Layers and documentary short film, Ladies Behind the Lens.
Thursday, 29th August 2024 | 8pm - 10:30pm | Academy Cinemas
THE FILMS
Weak Layers
After getting evicted, three party-loving best friends set out to win a ski-movie competition. The prize money covers their rent, but they’ll have to beat out professional skiers and filmmakers. An uproarious comedy that celebrates mountain towns and takes on the male-dominated ski industry.
Presented by Realization Films and directed by Katie Burrell. Starring Katie Burrell, Jadyn Wong, Chelsea Conwright, Neal Bledsoe, Evan Jonigkeit
Ladies Behind The Lens
The film follows the journey of five determined women delving into the world of adventure filmmaking for the first time. Supported by experienced mentors through a series of workshops and classic New Zealand backcountry missions, Ladies Behind The Lens pulls back the curtain for a candid, behind-the-scenes view of how the women navigate both triumphs and setbacks; grappling with technical challenges, equipment malfunctions, weather constraints and logistical nightmares. With each woman bringing a unique perspective to the table - from new motherhood to returning to the outdoors post-injury - Ladies Behind The Lens showcases the welcoming community that lies outside comfort zones.
Presented by North Face and produced by Hannah Marshall. Featuring Hannah Marshall, Francine Boer, Hannah Lowther, Amee Freeman, Jessie Byrne, Zyanya Jackson, Deanna Gerlach, Camilla Rutherford, Chloe Keeley, Whitney Oliver and Siobhan Challis
