ALT Surfwork’s Analog 2.0 Modern Log
9’4 Longboard with single fin
INTERMEDIATE + | 1-4 FT
A modern take on a log, designed for intermediate loggers looking to step up into a bit more speed, flow and offers a little more performance than a trad log.
What board are you reviewing for us? ALT Surfwork’s Analog 2.0 as a 9’4 single fin. It has a fuller nose and tapers down towards the tail. This is their modern take on the traditional log with 50/50 rails and an edge blended in towards the tail (a bit of sharpness on the rail near the tail to allow for easier manoeuvrability). It’s got a single, hand foiled fin by ALT Surfworks.
How was it to paddle out, duck dive? Was it floaty enough for your size/weight? Easy to paddle, not so easy to duck dive being a longboard but somewhat doable if you’re super keen to avoid turtle rolls like me! It’s not too heavy, fits under the arm, but still has plenty of float for me.
Was it easy to pop-up, and maneuver across the face or too fast/slow? This board is super easy to manoeuvre! It is a bit on the fast side though, so I sometimes feel like I’m stomping on the tail to really slow it down to stay in the pocket. Also, on steeper waves, the board tends to slip out a bit and I struggle to keep it engaged in the wave face.
What would your recommendations be for someone who’s looking to buy it? And in your personal opinion, what are the perfect conditions for this board to perform its best? The perfect conditions for this board would be a semi-soft glassy, waist-high day. This is a great board for anyone who’s looking to take the next step in advancing their longboarding skills. For someone interested in buying local NZ-made boards and who might be new to longboarding or looking for something to hone their skills, talk to Whare (owner of ALT). He does a really good job of assessing your skill level and chats to you about what you’re hoping to achieve in your surfing and then will help direct you to a specific shape and size that will be best for you. They are based outta Tauranga where Whare and his wife, Anne, create the boards together. Each board has a super fun and colorful resin design which can be customised and is a part of their signature style.
ALT surfworks are based in Tauranga and have a selection of their boards available to Demo!

About: I’m an artist/surfer originally from a little island on the east coast of the US. My husband and I came here on a surf trip about five years ago and just never left, ha.
Home break: Anywhere there’s a good sandbar in the Mount.
Style of surfing: I started surfing when I was 12, but only took up longboarding about three years ago and have fully found my love and groove with it!
Surf style inspo: Josie Prendergast (she’s got such a gentle & smooth style), my hubs Chris Hetem (he’s a freaking wave magnet and his style is super smooth, it’s actually hard not to get jealous of him, ha.), and Honolua Blomfield for her fearless, badass approach to surfing.
