Book Review: Swell by Captain Liz Clark
Do I want to be Liz Clark? Yes, excuse me while I throw my life in, buy a boat and sail the world with surfboards, thank you.
This book is awesome and inspirational and it’s great to have such an awesome female role-model living her badass life. She doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of her lifestyle and the challenges she faced, as well as being honest about the community, privileges and people that help her get there. Not in a way that diminishes her achievements and pioneering spirit, but which reflects how lacking it is in many traditional narratives.
While I struggled at times with a little too much cheesiness and forced dialogue, this wasn’t enough to put me off and love this book. For all the young and old ladies out there with dreams- she’s paved a path for us to know we can do it.
Also, love hearing about her advocacy for the planet and her personal struggles- a relatable book that is sure to inspire.
3.5/5 - a great inspiring read
