What board are you reviewing for us? Jack let me ride his beautiful new Log model- one of the first! 9’2 with a single fin.

How was it to manage? The weight of the board was really nice, and stands out being weighty enough but not super heavy like some big longboards. I found it easy to handle and manoeuvre and it held up well in the small crumbly conditions- I’m jonesing to try it in some cleaner/ bigger conditions! I did find that I personally felt that I lacked a tiny bit of paddle power to really get this board going in the perfect wave positioning, but overall it pulled me into the waves really nicely. I’d recommend an intermediate/ advanced rider would be able to put more skill into riding it - or a beginner looking for a more challenging board that will get your skills up (rather than something more forgiving and cruisey).

What are, in your personal opinion, the perfect conditions for your board to perform its best? Knee-shoulder peelers with a bit of punch behind them.

What would your recommendations be for someone who’s looking to buy it? All Verdure boards are made from environmentally responsible & plant based materials, so if that and supporting local, grassroots surf businesses in Aotearoa is your jam then Verdure is for you. This board would be a fun addition to a quiver for someone that likes taking their log out in bigger conditions and charge, or who likes a log with a bit more speed. I imagine this would suit someone who really likes to ride the board more actively and dynamically, rather than passively.

Verdure (formerly Organic Dynamic) are based in Wellington. They make a series of sustainable boards and custom orders.

About:  I’m the designer at Betty Zine. Intermediate rider, I’ve been surfing for 6 years and still working to improve! I’m a soul surfer and prefer enjoying my time in the ocean than pushing my limits and I’m allergic to crowds. This is my happiest happy face.

Home Break: Muriwai Beach, where I first fell in love with surfing and its wild beauty. Except I am still much too scared for most of the big, heavy conditions it gets...

Style of surfing: I’ll either be having some mindful alone time, trying to work on something in my surf progression, or loving a session with a bunch of friends in the water and full of joy! I’m definitely a mellow, low-risk surfer, although I am slowly pushing myself into more uncomfortable situations (aka bigger waves) and just getting into cross stepping and other skills.
