What board are you reviewing for us? Jack super kindly agreed to help me out with a 7’0 ‘Space Egg’ with a single fin. My goal for 2020 was to move to a smaller board so I thought this would be an awesome chance to try out a locally shaped board from Verdure (previously Organic Dynamic).
How was it to paddle out, duck dive? Was it floaty enough for your size/weight? This board really reinforced my need to get to a smaller board. It was just so darn easy to maneuver, paddling and duck diving were great, and it was less effort than trying to get my big board out. Definitely has enough volume to support me (I’m about 5’5) and doesn’t require too much precision to pop up, which is great because I’m not a precise surfer.
What would your recommendations be for someone who’s looking to buy it? Overall, I’d highly recommend this board, and not just because of its performance in the water. All Verdure boards are made from environmentally responsible materials, either recycled or sustainable products. I had a quick tour of the workshop and was stoked to see all the recycled polystyrene, New Zealand grown Paulownia and entropy bio-resin they use to construct the boards. They’re even trialing a plant based foam as a replacement for polystyrene! These guys are developing their workshop into a spot where people can come in and look at boards, check out local art and photography, and just hang out. For a place that’s absolutely chocka any time there’s a good wave, Lyall doesn’t have many places you can hang and talk surf. Verdure is an awesome, truly local little spot that we’re lucky to have in the capital.
Verdure (formerly Organic Dynamic) are based in Wellington. They make a series of sustainable boards and custom orders.

About: I’m a surfer and writer from Newtown, Wellington. Since I started surfing about a year and a half ago, I’ve lugged around my beautiful 9 ft longboard. Don’t get me wrong, I love her— and on the right day at Lyall Bay (my closest break) she’s a dream, but I really want something I can just throw in my car without worrying about strapping it to the roof.
Style of surfing: Definitely more on the soul surfing end. Surfing has been a really good way for me to come to terms with not being really good at everything I do, but instead enjoying doing something just for the fun of it.
