SEER surfcraft Twin Fin
5’5 32L
INTERMEDIATE + | 2ft-OVERHEAD
Designed to be a perfect blend of cruisey fun with added punch and dreamy turns.
What board are you reviewing for us? The board I am reviewing is the 5’5 SEER 32L twin fin. SEER Surfcraft is based in Dunedin (@seer_surf). My regular shortboards are around 27L so I was stoked the volume was packed into a pretty short outline without it being too bulky or with really fat rails. It has a standard shortboard rail, with a sharp edge in the tail. This minimises drag and gives it a loose feel. The glass-on keel fins give such good hold in the wave, you can drive hard off your bottom turn and get quite vertical. But you can also do nice drawn out turns and ride it how you would expect to ride a twin fin. I wanted this board to make softer, fatter waves even more fun!
How was it to paddle out, duck dive? Was it floaty enough for your size/weight? This is my “go to” board when I surf Murderers. It’s great to paddle and gets into waves really easily. It can handle the barrel section and makes light work when the wave goes a bit fat. You don’t have to pump and flap around trying to get speed and if your legs get tired from a hella long wave you can just stand there and cruise and it still feels awesome.
What do you think are the ideal conditions for this board? I surf this board a lot at St Clair, usually when it’s fat. It was great up at Sumner in Christchurch too! The other extreme was PK Bay down in the Catlins in some sucky, head-high waves. While I wanted the board for softer, fatter waves, I actually ended up surfing it in really good, steep waves, and it went awesome! You can take this out on anything between a mellow 2ft wave up to a heavier overhead wave and still have such a fun time.
What would your recommendations be for someone who’s looking to buy it? Overall, I love riding this board! I also love getting people to have a go on it, especially if they haven’t tried anything other than a “normal” short board before (Dunedin is hardcore shortboards). It comes in a range of sizes with glass-on fins, FCS II or Futures. You can even get channels. Starting price of $795.
SEER Surfcraft are based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. All boards are custom made to order.

Home break: I live just down the road from St Clair (Dunedin), which I surf a lot, and there are plenty of other breaks I love to surf that are very close by.
Style of surfing: I grew up just riding regular thrusters but now am definitely into riding a range of different boards like mid lengths, asyms, mini simmons, bonzers, logs etc. It is awesome appreciating and understanding that the board you are on can totally change how you ride a wave.
Style inspo: The power of Tyler Wright and the style of Daisy Thomas.
